CONCEPT

The amazing structure left behind by a genius inventor is revived in modern times

"PARAGON" is a one-of-a-kind item that embodies the aura of antique furniture. It is a piece of furniture with a special folding structure invented by a genius in the 19th century.
Originally named "PARAGON," its structure was based on a completely new principle that was created to maximize strength with minimal weight. Thin, slender pieces of natural wood of different lengths were cleverly joined and supported by metal plates, allowing it to be folded instantly and making it ideal for carrying. What's more, it was surprisingly lightweight yet highly rigid. The elegant atmosphere created by this well-calculated structure leaves a lasting impression on anyone who sees it at first sight.
The original meaning of "PARAGON" is "something that surpasses" or "something that serves as a model." Invented in the 19th century, widely loved in the 20th century, and then forgotten, this incredible structure left behind by a genius inventor has been taken on by antique collectors and reproduction professionals, and brought back to life in modern times.

PARAGON's History

No.1

The whole story begins with a British inventor,
This story cannot be told without mentioning Joseph Beverley Fenby.
*He's a very important person to us.
He invented it in 1877.
It starts with the "folding furniture system."
1863: Fenby obtains his first patent.
Since then, he has made numerous discoveries, including locks, buckles, door fasteners, pumps, valves, how to mount lamps on carriages, coffee injectors, hydraulic machines, easel equipment for outdoor painting of pantographs,
He has obtained numerous patents, including:
*The image shows the pantograph (graph drawing device) at that time.
In 1877, a folding furniture system was patented in England.
"Invention of folding stools, chairs, tables and beds for camping."
And so, they started manufacturing products as JB Fenby Co.
It is a memorable year.

PARAGON's History

No.2

In 1878, the product developed by Mr. Fenby was featured in the publication "ENGINEERING" (Note 1) No. 29.
*Note 1: ENGINEERING: An Illustrated Weekly Journal, a weekly magazine founded in 1866 by WH Maw and J. Dredge.
The literature provides a detailed explanation of how it is constructed and how it works to make it compact.
In a simple summary, the highlights include that it is patented, extremely easy to operate, as portable as a fishing pole, and incredibly light.

PARAGON's History

No.3

In 1881, he obtained a patent for the "folding furniture system" in the United States. He later transferred the rights to Jason Mavin Bowen of New York, USA.
In the same year, they published a catalogue, the title of which reads as follows:
“PARAGON” CAMP FURNITURE is entirely made by special machines. All corresponding parts are dimensionally guaranteed and can even be exchanged. All products on this list are made on a completely new principle, combining maximum strength with minimum weight. All products can be opened and closed in one movement. As shown in the drawings, they are incredibly small when closed. Made of pitch pine and iron, except in special orders. We provide complete details of the dimensions and weight of each item, illustrated in the drawings.
It is deeply moving to know that this product was already completed in 1881, about 140 years ago.

PARAGON's History

No.4

1904 Exhibited at the St. Louis World's Fair (Note) *The St. Louis Purchase Exposition (Expo 1904) was an international exposition held in St. Louis, Missouri, USA from April 30 to December 1, 1904 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase. Sixty countries participated, and 19.69 million people visited during the event. The St. Louis Olympics were held at the same time.
In the same year, the company signed licensing agreements with manufacturers in France and Italy, as well as with Gold Medal Camp Furniture Co. in the United States.
Since then, PARAGON has been loved by American greats and has gained popularity.
This chair is almost always featured in catalogs of American outdoor equipment from around 1890 to the 1930s.
